The identity and work we’ve created for the Kiss Chosen One goes live today http://www.kissfmuk.com/creative/chosenone/index.html. This will mean a whole new life for someone in 2012.
Deptford X is…
London’s Wild West …a boisterous concoction of blue-collar aesthetics and intermittent hipsterism: New York Times
The new Montmartre: Italian Vogue
A seal on the area’s creative credentials: Evening Standard
Bigger and more international each year: Time Out
A vibrant festival of contemporary art: Guardian Guide, Pick of the Week
Situated just over the river from Canary Wharf and stones throw away from Greenwich and its Naval Academy lies Deptford, steeped in old London history and new London’s cultural diversity.
Deptford is of course the home of Deptford X, which is once again aiming to produce a unique high quality contemporary arts festival in 2012, coinciding with the Olympic Games. This is an amazing event, unique amongst its peers and this year they are looking for partners and sponsors to help make it happen.
One of the great things about Deptford X is that it’s always been free; as a majority of the programmed work is exhibited in the public domain and the Deptford environment – painted on the side of buildings, 48 Sheets, bus shelters, roundabouts, refuge trucks, signage, local shops, over bridges, on boats & barges & even building wraps! It all becomes part of the vista along with 40 independent studios exhibiting and curating works.
Not only does Deptford X produce an excellent visual arts festival, they also work in one of the officially most deprived areas in the UK running community and education projects with the youth, both disaffected and disadvantaged. Participants in the projects work with professionals and the results of their own work will be exhibited alongside some of the most celebrated artists in the UK. For 2012 Deptford X has taken on Hew Locke and Indra Khanna as the lead artist-curators.
If you visit Deptford during the festival programme you will no doubt see the work by over one hundred artists, plus the results of all the community education projects.
It’s always hard to keep contemporary creative programs funded, especially ones which have always been free to the public. People move on, budgets get cut, priorities change, restrictions have to be met, it’s the 2010 funding cut fall out.
But this is one worth fighting for and investing in so that it continues to be creative, inventive, part of UK’s cultural art scene and most importantly ‘free’ and an intregal part of the community! This year the Deptford X team are looking for support from like minded brands, businesses or organisations in the form of sponsorship or partnerships. There are many opportunities to be gained or negotiated through supporting Deptford X in 2012 and they will of course treat their benefactors requirements with diligence providing adequate coverage in return.
